More Glee Monday (the happy feeling kind, not the show) is going on at [personal profile] mrspollifax's LJ. I'm going to have to agree with her that there's definitely not enough Fringe there at the moment.

ETA: Not only is there Nina Sharp picspam, but she'd also written me Nina/Phillip future!fic as only she can.

A lovely Colorado Low brought more snow in 24 hours than we've had all winter, so snow day yesterday. Which is a lot less fun than it used to be when I was a kid. The nature of my job makes it that I can work from pretty much anywhere I can pick up enough of a signal to launch a VPN connection. (seriously, I once spent the day perched on a bucket in a storage closet/server room, several more in a walk-in freezer - fun times) But a day of working from the sofa with a cat on my lap still beats a day of sitting in an office chair. (and the coffee's better)

tldr whining over the state of recreation... )

However, people reblogging Starbuck picspam on Tumblr really makes my day. You know who you are. *g*

Finally got around to downloading P!nk's Greatest Hits... So Far - note to self: don't sing along with the explicit lyrics at work. Pay attention dammit!

Today's XKCD not so unlike messing with the Fine Arts students in astronomy class at uni. (and totally appeals to my inner 8yo *cue Beavis and Butthead laughter*)

Flaily things: [personal profile] dieastra's action figure theater is getting some nice attention (and well deserved - even if you're not a DW or Torchwood fan, the attention to detail she puts into each of these is amazing and worth checking out)

...Just like I turned 24 last year... and the year before that... and the... you get the picture. Celebrated with an invigorating round of physio for a sprained knee (not the one I bashed up a few weeks back though hockey was the culprit again - being 24 isn't like it used to be!) where my wonderful therapist demonstrated an exercise that involves closing one's eyes, standing on one foot, and sounds a lot more like a drinking game or a sobriety test than therapy.

However, that pales compared to the red velvet cupcakes from my dear sis, the sparkly valentines v-gifts (thank you to the usual suspects! *hugs*), sexy ship picspam from [personal profile] supplyship (because she knows my weak spot for fast clean lines and lots of horsepower. and spaceships!).

Oh, and [profile] a_loquita wrote me fic: Homemade Construction - SG1, mostly gen, but very sweet Valentine's celebrations through the years. (mostly gen, except for suggestive use of transporter technology, that is)

PS: Kate, the card arrived today and I had to hide it already so it didn't get over-loved. It's fabulous. Thank you so much!

So yeah, apparently I can knit scarves now, thanks to the internet and help from my flist. :)
I love the internet. (still can't believe how much time I spent browsing fuckyeahfluiddynamics on Tumblr)

seedstitched )
The iPad pocket in my shoulder bag doubles nicely for stashing knitting in because it doesn't bind the yarn, so scarves two (a variation on this) and three (haven't got a pattern for, but it's green and soft and looks like a stick of bamboo) currently in progress. *hides yarn stash for two more projects* Maybe I shouldn't have googled for local yarn shops? Actually though, I do find the repetitiveness and symmetry of knitting rather soothing for my ADD personality, and it's probably more productive than mainlining caffeine in the long run.

I have decided that I would like to knit a scarf. Mostly because my favorite scarf is looking really worse for wear and I don't know anybody in RL to co-opt into making me one. So I'm wondering, dear knitters on my flist (and I know there are plenty of you out there), do you have any suggestions for patterns geared towards the novice, preferably in plain English and with pictures, for something similar to this stylish cable knit scarf? (not necessarily this, just something subtle and not showy, but substantial enough for those days when it's so cold your eyelashes freeze to your cheeks)

Or am I setting my sights too high for the first time out?
