Nina!1111!!!!! Holy Craaaaaap!.
Okay, I admit that I was expecting some sort of no-goodness from Nina in this 'verse - the black office decore just spells evil villain lair, but I was definitely not expecting this.
Funny that the most important thing Peter did for Olivia in the other timeline, even at their very first meeting, was have confidence in her, which allowed her to find that confidence and happiness in herself. The person who she places this trust in this time around, turns out to be the person who ultimately betrays her. Also, that Olivia feels more distant regarding the cases, less passionate. Though i don't know if that's exactly the word I'm looking for. Cooler, for sure. Maybe just as broken. And it's really showed this season, to the point where I've found it a bit unsettling. Eeeennnteresting.
Hello Lincoln Lee in your shiny new new specs. I do say it's cute that Peter's playing Cupid. (he just wants his girl to be happy in any universe?) Or he's flirting with him. Undecided there. Maybe both.
I love that Astrid snarks back at Walter, even cuts him right off and shuts her briefcase on him. I love how their relationship hads evolved. And Walter has an octopi! In a hamster ball. There is fic out there that is pretty much canon now. ;)
It's like this episode was catering right to my little corner of fandom.
Also, I'm pretty sure there's some sort of conspiracy between Fox, Bad Robot, and Major League Baseball - that was one evil evil cliff-hanger.
I'm sure I'll have more thoughts later about what this all means, but it's late a I have to be out of the house and probably wi-fi-less early tomorrow. Damn you, hiatus!
Let there be fic!

There is nothing wrong with her ability to connect to people; her abstract sense of right and wrong somehow seems a little less...developed, maybe? No wonder, with Nina -- this wolf in, um, warg's clothing? ;) -- as her care-taker and substitute mother...

Hey, the actors have said it themselves: totally and consciously playing the bromance angle. Bless Seth Gabel and his queer bent when he does Blue!Lincoln. Not that Josh Jackson is a slouch in this department; he really gets across that Peter is reaching out to the other guy in the picture in ways that are super-obligatory.

Date: 2011-11-22 04:00 pm (UTC)I miss the open, airy feel of the old MD offices. Everything in this version are all dark basements and concrete floors. Evil, I tell ya. ;)

Ha ha, apt description of Nina. :)
Maybe it's that Olivia is both more guarded, but also more willing to give people a chance and let them in as friends? It's interesting that while she's reaching out to Lincoln, she's still pretty evasive with him about her past. On any other show, I'd write it off to inconsistent characterization, but this seems very purposeful on the part of the writers to make Olivia just a few degrees different from her blue'verse self.
And if it follows that people are the sum of their experiences, (which makes me think that while this *is* Peter's home in the sense that it's a direct offshoot of the blue'verse, these are not Peter's people as he knows them, because they've had different experiences) and this Olivia's experiences include living under Nina's calculating eye, it figures that she'd pick up a thing or two about connecting with people while keeping them at arm's length, and keeping her most personal feelings so locked down. It was reassuring to me that she was bothered that she didn't feel as disturbed by everything as she should. This is the Olivia we know and love.
Elfin's tentacle fic were *exactly* the ones I was thinking of. *g*
(Look, I just can't get over the fact Seth's last name spells FORK in German...)
See? I learned something new today. :)
