I'm not going to spoil things for you because the machine is a very big part of the Season 3 mythology, but lets just say that they send the instructions back the same way they leave the note about the 'crowbar'? (It'll make sense when you get there) Not quite as wonderful and hiding it in DNA, but interesting (I think), nonetheless.
