And it's making me feel all twitchy. Gifted for Christmas, this is the loudest sweater I have ever owned. You could lose me in an electrical storm with this on:

I wonder if my family is trying to say something about my closet of browns, blacks, and forest greens? (with the occasional muted blue thrown in for color)

My 'little' brother is an arborist and a New Year's baby, so my sister made him a cake last week. Considering we come from a family that doesn't place a lot of value on art and the creation thereof and were never encouraged, she has some mad skilz with baked goods:

So yeah, apparently I can knit scarves now, thanks to the internet and help from my flist. :)
I love the internet. (still can't believe how much time I spent browsing fuckyeahfluiddynamics on Tumblr)

The iPad pocket in my shoulder bag doubles nicely for stashing knitting in because it doesn't bind the yarn, so scarves two (a variation on this) and three (haven't got a pattern for, but it's green and soft and looks like a stick of bamboo) currently in progress. *hides yarn stash for two more projects* Maybe I shouldn't have googled for local yarn shops? Actually though, I do find the repetitiveness and symmetry of knitting rather soothing for my ADD personality, and it's probably more productive than mainlining caffeine in the long run.

Drop Shortbread cookies.
Alas, they are so easy to make that there's always next weekend to replenish my stash of cookie gifts.
(including Cardamom sugar cookies and Cocoa Wafer cookies, along with the usual assortment of gingerbread characters)

Also made cabbage rolls with sushi rice, bacon, bay leaves, and onions carmalized to within inches of their lives. These are not your baba's holubtsi. Mmmm...

Incidentally... You animated-gif-making people out there - what software do you use/find the most intuitive?

Knitting - I now own two sets of needles with two different projects on the go. Why didn't y'all warn me this would happen!? Oh wait, you did...

So, Fringe 4.06, I have many thoughts, most of them not coherent at this point. I've been trying to write up a review all weekend but words, they just will not come.

it's like the first season all over again, but not exactly... )

Why, oh why is there only one more episode until the winter break? Why?!

In other news, I am so stuck on my secret santa fic. I think it needs a sound track. I just haven't found writing music that fits. Or maybe a plot. (I'm not even entertaining the just writing smut option until down it's down to the last couple of days till deadline. Not this time.)

I knitted this weekend! Okay, actually, I unraveled a lot of yarn this weekend. And cast back on. And unraveled a lot more yarn. And cast back on. And unraveled... you get the picture. I'm getting really good at that part. My yarn, however, looks like it's been through a lawn mower.
But then today I figured out the yarn-forward/yarn-behind part so it doesn't look like a huge snarled ball and I have rows now. Progress! (also helps that I tried very hard not to think of pirates and the Black Purl each time I tried to make a purl stitch... uh yeah. Welcome to my brain with a fever.)

I have decided that I would like to knit a scarf. Mostly because my favorite scarf is looking really worse for wear and I don't know anybody in RL to co-opt into making me one. So I'm wondering, dear knitters on my flist (and I know there are plenty of you out there), do you have any suggestions for patterns geared towards the novice, preferably in plain English and with pictures, for something similar to this stylish cable knit scarf? (not necessarily this, just something subtle and not showy, but substantial enough for those days when it's so cold your eyelashes freeze to your cheeks)

Or am I setting my sights too high for the first time out?
